Opening hours

The Main Library is currently open 24/7 during exam time if you need to work through the night. The 24/7 period finishes on Friday 27th January.

The Joule Library is open till 12 at night Monday to Saturday and then Sunday 1-12. Late opening at the Joule finishes on Thursday 26th January.

Do you have a book that you would like the library to buy to help you with your studies, teaching or research?

First of all check on the library catalogue to ensure that we don’t have the book and then all you need to do is access this link:

and then select the Faculty Team for Engineering & Physical Sciences to send the EPS team your recommendation.

If the recommendation is suitable we will order the book and we can also reserve it for you so that you will be notified when it arrives.

Core texts – recommended reading

If you have any problems getting your hands on the core texts recommended by your lecturer then just drop me an email with the course title and the book details.

I can always check to see if I can purchase e-books or hard copies of the recommended texts to ensure you have access to the material when you need it.

The School of Humanities has developed an excellent resource aimed at developing your study skills and becoming a better learner.

There are sections on everything from Study Essentials, Developing as a Learner, Assesment & Evaluation, Organising yourself etc.

Although it is Humanities based the information on there is still relevant to you as students of MACE and EEE.

Google Books

Access to core textbooks can be tricky when there are large numbers of students looking to borrow the same recommended books.

In the library we aim to purchase e-books wherever possible to support the modules taught at the University but this is not always possible.

If a book is not available as an e-book via the library catalogue its worthwhile checking to see if the book is accessible via Google Books.

As an example for MACE 60006 – People & Organisations, the majority of the McKenna book – Business Psychology is available to view online.

I carried out a quick search for recommended textbooks on google books and there were quite a few available.

For those students taking MACE 60006 you can access the majority of the 2000 edition of the McKenna book, Business psychology and organisational behaviour: a student’s handbook, via Google Books at:
